Homemade Toothpaste Recipe

Why spend money on toothpaste when you can make your own homemade toothpaste that works and helps whiten your teeth.

Things you will need to help get you started on making your own Toothpaste

Baking Soda – This is a mild abrasive that will dissolve easily in your solution. The baking soda will help kill micro-organisms and disease related bacteria. It will also help neutralize and detoxify the bacterial acids and toxins that form in plaque. Baking Soda will also help make whiten your teeth.

Table Salt – Table salt in a solution at higher concentration will kill on contact all micro-organisms associated with infections in your mouth. You can brush with just table salt and water, but not recommended.

Glycerin – Glycerin has antibacterial potential, which is not well recognized. If a drop of glycerin is added to living bacterial dental plaque, they will stop moving and work instantly. Try just putting a drop or two on your toothbrush and brush and rinse.

Hydrogen Peroxide –Hydrogen Peroxide is great for killing bacterial plaque just poor some hydrogen peroxide on your toothbrush and brush away and rinse and spit with water. Hydrogen Peroxide will also whiten your teeth.

When Hydrogen peroxide comes into contact with your bacterial plaques it will break down rapidly into oxygen and water. This will help break up and destroy the thin bacterial layer on tooth surfaces and, it will show the places where bacteria are located. When used as an ingredient, it has little, if any bacterial action effect. The hydrogen peroxide will break down to rapidly.

Vinegar – Vinegar is great for cleaning your teeth too. Just pour some vinegar on your toothbrush and the vinegar will freeze all bacteria, and it will help dissolve deposits of hardened plaque. Brushing a few times a week will prevent hardened plaque and formation


Here is a tasteful and well used in our household for homemade toothpaste

½ cup of baking soda

¼ cup of hydrogen peroxide

½ teaspoon of salt

3 table spoons of glycerin

And from our own experiences we have learned to improve the taste and smell to add 2-4 drops depending on make and brand along with how strong you want it to be of the following:

Peppermint oil (Favorite gives a nice clean taste)

Wintergreen Oil (another one of our favorites)

Vanilla Oil

Cinnamon oil (you can use freshly ground cinnamon just add ½ teaspoon or more depending on how strong you want it )

You can also try dried out and finely grounded orange, lemon and lime peels. Or Finely chopped mint and sage leaves.

Just make sure whatever the ingredients you decide to use to make your homemade toothpaste make sure it is always food grade quality, which means you can consume it.
