DIY to Save Money

A huge opportunity to save money that is often overlooked is just simple DIY repairs and maintenance. This can apply to a variety of things such as around the house, on cars, etc.

The internet can be an amazing tool, with the click of a button we can get an unlimited amount of information delivered right to us.

If this is you're first time looking at this, don't worry. To start we would need to start with easier jobs. Small DIY jobs like replacing a light switch or fixture can be done with minimal guidance and minimal training.

To help gauge your project, start by searching google and youtube for tips on how to do it, there are often several tutorials and videos available. Watching someone perform the job will help give you an idea on how much work it will actually be and how long it takes a pro, for your first time doing it, it will likely take you 2x-4x as long as the pro, but it will give you an idea on how difficult it is.

Once you've watched the video and read the tutorial, check to ensure you have all the tools and equipment needed, if you need anything, go out ahead of time and pick it up, there is nothing worse than starting something and realizing you still need something and needing to take another trip to the store.

Once you have everything you need, if possible print out the tutorial/instructions and watch the video again. Make sure you have the video queued up in case you need to review something half way through. Then start your project! As always be careful and if you don't feel comfortable doing something, then don't! Be careful of anything water and electrical related, if you don't take the right precautions it can get unpleasent.
