If you have never tried making your own play dough, this is the time to give it a try. It’s very different to store bought play dough, being much softer and lasting a whole lot longer.

The benefits of using play dough for young children are wonderful and the play possibilities are endless!

What you will need:

1.) 2 cups plain flour (all purpose)
2.) 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
3.) 1/2 cup salt
4.) 2 tablespoons cream of tartar
5.) Up to 1.5 cups boiling water (adding in increments until it feels just right)
6.) food colouring (optional)

7.)few drops glycerine (optional- adds more shine!)

8.) Glitter (optional)

How To Make:

1.) Mix the flour, salt, cream of tartar and oil in a large mixing bowl

2.) Slowly add the boiling water while stirring

3.) Stir continuously until it becomes a sticky combined dough

4.) separate the mixture if doing multiple colors

5.) add food coloring and glycerin, or glitter (both are optional)

6.) Allow the dough to cool down then take it out of the bowl and knead it vigorously for a couple of minutes until all of the stickiness has gone.

*Note Number six is a important part of the process, so keep at it until its the perfect consistency!* (If you find its still a little sticky then add a little flour at a time.

and voila, You have made your own homemade play-dough!

You can store your play-dough in a air tight container for about 6 months. If you live in a humid climate you might need to store it in a refrigerator and make sure to keep out of sunlight.
